FRANK MC GUINNESS AT THE ALLINGHAM FESTIVAL

The work of Donegal author, poet and playwright Frank Mc Guinness will be celebrated in style at this year’s Allingham Arts Festival.

To begin, we present a specially commissioned production of McGuinness’s play ‘The Bread Man’, which the playwright himself will attend.

Synopsis: in a border town in north Donegal in 1970, Sinner Courtney struggles to come to terms with family relationships. As his antics become more unpredictable, those around him become increasingly embarrassed and disapproving of his behaviour.

This will be a unique opportunity to enjoy the play in the company of the playwright himself. The evening will begin with a wine reception in the Abbey Arts Centre at 7.15, followed by a presentation to Mr. Mc Guinness before the show, with curtain up at 8pm (we strongly recommend booking early for this event as interest is high and seating in the theatre will be limited).

On Saturday afternoon, RTÉ’s Seán Rocks will host a public interview with Mc Guinness as he reflects on his life and work.

This conversation promises to offer fascinating insights into the life of the artist and his journey from “timid young boy” in Buncrana to becoming one of Ireland’s most respected writers, recognised as a leading voice in theatre (“The Factory Girls”, “Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me”, “Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme”), poetry and literature (“Arimathea”, “The Woodcutter & His Family”).

Please note, this will also be a limited seating event, so once again, we advise you to book early.
