CCBS TY Theatre

29th January 2015 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

| €8

Coláiste Cholmcille Transition Year Theatre students take over the main stage of the Abbey Centre on Thursday the 29th of January to present three plays, ‘Just Desserts’ by Pat Cook, ‘Fr. Ted – The Eurovision’, and ‘Sive’ by John B. Keane (a one-act adaptation). Tickets are EUR 8 for adults and EUR 5 for children. Doors open at 7pm. Show begins at 8pm.

‘Just Desserts’

Where there’s a will, there’s a relative. This was never truer than in the case of the late Desmond Clairborn. And greed was never better represented than in the relatives of the deceased. There’s a fast-talking nephew, a demented son and his Marilyn Monroe look-alike wife, a starchild niece and two sisters, one feisty, the other senile. This farce has more twists than a pretzel, and half the fun is watching who gets what and the other half is watching them get it.

‘Fr. Ted – Eurovision’

Ted is goaded by Father Dick Byrne into attempting to write a song for “Eurosong ’96” (spoof of the Eurovision Song Contest). Despite having a song with only one note, Ireland’s fear of winning again (and having to fund it) plays into Ted and Dougal’s hands.

‘Sive’

Beautiful young Sive lives with her aunt and uncle in rural Kerry. Seán Dóta, an elderly farmer, offers the local match-maker Thomasheen Seán Rua, a large sum for her hand in marriage. Will this be too much for her aunt and uncle to resist? Rediscover this dark, powerful story of greed and passion in a one-act adaptation.

All three shows are taking part in the All Ireland Transition Year Drama Competition, and hope to make it as far as the finals in the Briery Gap Theatre, Macroom, Co. Cork, and the event will help raise funds for this.
